The Truckee Pop Warner Pee Wees traveled to Sparks and defeated the Reno Wolf Pack 31-0 this past Saturday.

The Wolf Pack kicker started the game with a huge kickoff that pinned the Wolverines back on their own 7-yard line. It took a few plays for Truckee to get things going against the Wolf Pack defense.

Patrick Hogan, Gaven Kelly and Owen Slusher had good runs to start the game. The offense went into high gear when Kelly took the ball up the middle and bounced outside for a 65-yard touchdown.

Kelly made the transition from offensive line to running back for this game and he made the most of his opportunities, adding a second TD on a 7-yard scamper. Kelly finished the night with 118 yards on just five carries. Carter Corso outran all but one Reno defender for a 32-yard gain that set up Kelly’s second TD.

It was a night of firsts, as first-year player Marcus Trotter carried the ball three times for 59 yards, highlighted by an electric 42-yard run followed by a 17-yard TD. Dakota Allen-Gill had 29 yards on two carries.

The running load was distributed among the whole team as 20 different players carried the ball.

“It was great to see all the boys carry the ball,” said Truckee coach Chris Skaff. “Eight or nine boys stepped up for the first time in a game and ran the ball tonight. I think many of them got a whole new perspective on being a running back based on fumbles and a few big hits they took. One of our first-year players, Sebastian Hall, did great and got 6 yards on his run.”

While the offense fired on all cylinders, the big red defense was the hit of the night. All 24 players who suited up contributed to the dominating Wolverine performance.

On Reno’s third possession Owen Elvrum stepped in front of a pass and returned it 47 yards for quick defensive touchdown. Braedy Santens took the quarterback sneak in for the PAT.

After a big kickoff by Jack Watters, Reno took possession on their own 22-yard line. On the first play from scrimmage the pitch to the Reno running back was dropped and heady Hogan scooped up the ball and scored 20 yards later. Nate Bromely’s PAT attempt was not successful.

“Defensive scores are great and to get an interception and a scoop and score on consecutive plays is outstanding,” said Steve Hogan, Truckee’s defensive coordinator. Truckee’s stingy defense only allowed Reno 39 yard of total offense on the night.

Truckee wraps up the regular season at South Lake Tahoe on Saturday at 6 p.m. Both teams are 4-1 heading into the game. The winner will get the No. 1 seed in the Mountain Division when the playoffs begin the following week.
