The league-leading Truckee volleyball team found itself in an unfamiliar position Saturday against Elko — trailing after the opening set.

But then, the Lady Wolverines turned the tables, responding with three-consecutive victories to claim a 3-1 win (27-25, 25-10, 25-20, 25-13) over the Indians at Elko High School.

A large reason the Lady Indians won the first set was due to the absence of an Truckee’s standout hitter Maia Dvoracek. The senior captain did not play in the opening frame, as she tried to work out a neck injury she suffered Friday night in Spring Creek.

In the second set, Dvoracek’s power on both sides of the ball was apparent immediately, making next-level kills and blocking multiple shots to rejuvenate the Wolverines.

Dvoracek finished with 14 kills and six blocks, both team-highs. Anika Penrose had nine kills and Kelly Cross added six kills. Shelby Gendreau orchestrated the offense with 37 set assists.

Sara Gran-Nilsson anchored the back row with 11 digs. Gendreau and Madison Bromley added nine digs apiece.

On Friday, Dvoracek was a force at the net, hammering 17 kills to lead Truckee to a 3-0 sweep (25-11, 25-14, 25-21) of Spring Creek at Spring Creek High School.

Bromley posted eight kills and eight digs, Mia Curtis had nine digs, and Gendreau hoisted 28 set assists.

Girls soccer: Truckee notches fifth-straight shutout

This much was clear last week, as the Lady Wolverines shut out three 3A Northern opponents in a row to remain unbeaten in league play.

Ava Seelenfreund’s three-goal hat-trick led the scoring spree. Zareli Villa and Marley Simpson tacked on two goals apiece, while Olivia Vigano, Olivia Koster, Amber Simponpietri and Chase Rosellen each added a goal.

Truckee’s stout defense didn’t allow a single shot on goal.

The Wolverines kept the pace with shutouts of Elko and Spring Creek over the weekend. On Friday, the Wolverines blanked the Spartans 4-0 at home.

Vigano, Simpson, Simonpietri and Rosellen each netted goals for Truckee. Truckee goalkeepers Elena Orozco and Izzy Abarno had one save apiece.
