Petty Officer 3rd Class Brian Andrew Collins, of Truckee, was 25 at the time of his death.

TRUCKEE, Calif. — One of Truckee’s own will be remembered and honored this Saturday.

A procession in honor of Petty Officer 3rd Class Brian Andrew Collins begins at 11 a.m. outside of Truckee-Tahoe Mortuary, at 10126 Church St., ending at Truckee High School, where a celebration of life begins at noon in the gym.

A formal rifle salute will be part of the event. The entire ceremony should conclude at about 1:30 p.m.

The procession will likely cause “major” traffic disruptions on Commercial Row and the downtown corridor, Truckee Police Chief Adam McGill said in a statement.

“Please be patient and know we will do all we can to mitigate delays,” he said.

Collins — who grew up in Truckee and attended Truckee Elementary, Sierra Mountain Middle and Truckee High schools — died in a Navy helicopter crash off the Virginia coast on Jan. 8 during a routine training exercise for mine countermeasures. He was 25.
