Tintabulations holds spring concerts at both shores of Lake Tahoe

Tintabulations, a community handbell ensemble from Reno, will present spring concerts at both shores of Lake Tahoe in coming days to raise money for their first national tour to North Carolina and Virginia.

“Entitled ‘Greetings From Tintab,’ this concert weaves stories from the group’s past with modern bell literature,” according to a press release from the group. “Traditional folk songs, smooth jazz, and classic rock are all part of the concert, as well as impressive original works for bells written by some of the nation’s foremost handbell composers. Performing on 120 bells and chimes, the 14 talented musicians that comprise Tintabulations prove that bell ringing can be entertaining year-round and not just at the holiday season.”

In June the group will take their first cross-country trip. The group has been invited by famous handbell composer Michael Glasgow to present a series of concerts and workshops around North Carolina and Virginia to spread the art of bell ringing, according to the release.

Tintabulations was founded in 1996 by Barb Walsh, a music teacher and the group’s director, with a group of high school students. The group has since grown to include University of Nevada, Reno students and members from all over the region.
