Area resorts have big plans for holiday weekend

The holiday season in North Lake Tahoe-Truckee is a magical time to spend with family and friends enjoying all the fun that the outdoors have to offer or cozying up inside by a fire.

Area resorts have holiday activities planned for locals and visitors to make the most of the Christmas season.

"There's no better place to spread holiday cheer than at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows," said Sam Kieckhefer, public relations coordinator for the resort.

"The resort currently has the most open terrain in Tahoe across two mountains, activities such as snow tubing for all ages, and family friendly events throughout the holidays. Whether you're ripping up the slopes or here for a hot chocolate in the Village, there's something for everyone to enjoy amongst a very festive environment," he added.

Over on the other side of town, Northstar California Resort is also preparing to welcome guests for some good old fashion family fun.

"Exploring the mountain together as a family is one of the best gifts the holidays bring. The lights, champagne toasts and holiday festivities are an added bonus to the memories. There's nothing more special than the time and space to be together — unless there are s'mores involved. Everything is better with s'mores," said Stephanie Myers, communications specialist for the resort.

To be sure commuters are safe this holiday season, Tahoe Truckee Transit is offering a complimentary shuttle.

Truckee North Tahoe Transportation Management Association executive director, Jaime Wright, says this is another opportunity to better connect the community and help reduce congestion this holiday season by leaving the car behind.

"Transportation is truly at the heart of everything we do. It connects us to each other, our communities, services, jobs, education and recreation — the things that make up our lives. We encourage everyone to join us on the bus this holiday season and help create a culture change in our region," Wright said.
