‘Cowgirls and Cocktails’ to debut at Tahoe Donner Equestrian Center

Special to the Sun

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. — You don’t need to be a cowgirl to appreciate the Cowgirls and Cocktails event taking place Friday at Tahoe Donner’s Equestrian Center.

Offered on select Fridays, cowgirls and cowboys are invited to gather for an early evening trail ride followed by beer, wine and appetizers on the deck at the Tahoe Donner Equestrian Center. Enjoy a meandering trail ride through highland meadows and forests and then relax on the deck, nibble on appetizers and sip a frosty beer or glass of wine. It’s a great way to kick off the weekend.

Trail rides will be 5-6 p.m. followed by drinks and appetizers, 6-7 p.m. This event is for adults ages 21 and up. The cost is $65 per person ($55 for Tahoe Donner Association members). The 2013 Cowgirls and Cocktails Rides are offered July 12, July 26, Aug. 9 and Aug. 23.

The Tahoe Donner Equestrian center opened for the season June 15, offering trail rides, lessons, boarding options and Saturday Night Barbecues. Tahoe Donner’s Equestrian Center recently added day camps to the schedule for September as well as a Pony Pajama Party. All equestrian events and activities are open to the public.

Guided trail rides are offered Thursday through Monday, as well as pony rides for children ages 2 – 6. Pony rides last 30 minutes and are led by a parent or guardian, trail rides are offered at one- and two-hour lengths. Guests ages 7 and over will be guided by an experienced and professionally trained member of the Equestrian Center staff along a scenic trail through forests, hillsides and highland meadows.

Private lessons are available with a member of Tahoe Donner Equestrian Center’s staff on weekends for beginner through intermediate riding levels, ages 7 and up. Horses will be provided by Tahoe Donner for all trail and pony rides, as well as for lessons. For guests who own their own horse, Tahoe Donner Equestrian Center’s boarding options include nightly, weekly and monthly options.

Saturday Night Barbecues are a family favorite. The fun begins at 5 p.m. with games, mini wagon rides, crafts, contests, dress-up and delicious food. Reservations are required with a 72-hour cancellation policy. The cost is $45 per adult ($34 for Tahoe Donner Association members). Inquire about children’s rates.
