TAHOE-TRUCKEE, Calif. — Below are the Sierra Sun’s picks for the Top 10 events to check out this weekend at Truckee and Lake Tahoe.

1. Truckee Optimist Brew Fest
Savor the 11th annual Truckee Optimist Brew Fest on Saturday at the Truckee Regional Park. The event will feature more than 40 breweries as well as live music from local bands Lost Whiskey Engine and Coburn Station. The event is an annual fundraiser to support programs, sponsorships, grants and scholarships for the youth of Truckee.
When: 1-5 p.m. Saturday, June 11
Where: Truckee Regional Park
Cost: $30 presale; $35 at the gate; designated drivers admitted free. Must be 21 or older.
2. Lake Tahoe Photo Exhibit
A retrospective exhibit of iconic Lake Tahoe photographs taken by noted photographer Harold A. Parker will open Friday at the Gatekeeper’s Museum in Tahoe City. The exhibit, which runs through Labor Day, captures scenic views from 1905 to 1913 when Parker was the resident Tahoe Tavern photographer.
When: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily starting Friday, June 10
Where: Gatekeeper’s Museum, Tahoe City
Cost: $5 general admission; $4 seniors; active military and children under 12 free
3. Sweetwater String Band at CBC
The Sweetwater String Band, a cello-drive bluegrass band that stirs up a boot-stomping atmosphere, will bring its high-energy sound to the North Shore for a free show at the Crystal Bay Casino.
When: 10 p.m. Friday, June 10
Where: Crystal Bay Casino Red Room
4. Lake Tahoe Thunderbird Paddling Festival
The Thunderbird Paddling Festival, featuring some of the most epic scenery Lake Tahoe has to offer, will take place Saturday at Sand Harbor State Park. Choose from either a 4-mile or 8-mile paddleboard race or go for the Big Blue Waterman Challenge, which combines stand-up paddleboard, swimming and beach running.
When: 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, June 11

5. Truckee Duckee Derbee
The 13th annual Truckee Duckee Derbee — a rubber duck race on the Truckee River at River Ranch Lodge — will take place Sunday. The event, which raises funds for the Humane Society of Truckee Tahoe, includes music, barbecue, raffle, dog costume contest and more.
When: 1-4 p.m. Sunday, June 12
Where: River Ranch Lodge, Tahoe City
Cost: $10 to sponsor a duck
6. IVGID Community Appreciation Golf Days
Both the Incline Village Mountain and Championship golf courses are showing their appreciation to residents of Incline Village and Crystal Bay by offering free golf, clinics, and discounts to people with a valid IVGID Picture Pass this weekend.
When: Friday-Sunday, June 10-12
Where: Mountain Course, Championship Course, Incline Village
Cost: Free with IVGID Picture Pass
7. Tough Mudder at Northstar California
This nationally acclaimed obstacle run returns to Northstar California this weekend. A revamped 10-12 mile course featuring more than 20 obstacles, including everything from electric shocks to barbed wire, will greet the thousands of people expected to take part.
When: Saturday-Sunday, June 11-12
Where: Northstar California
Cost: Tickets start at $159; spectator fee is $20
8. Squaw Valley Half Marathon
The Squaw Valley Half Marathon will take place Sunday, starting and finishing at the iconic Village at Squaw Valley. The course is fast and flat, a scenic route featuring mainly paved trail through the valley and along Truckee River.
When: 6:30 a.m. Sunday, June 12

9. Preservation Hall Jazz Band at Harrah’s
Preservation Hall Jazz Band will make its Lake Tahoe debut this weekend at the South Shore Room at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe. The band began touring in 1963 out of the French Quarter’s Preservation Hall music venue, and its rotating cast of musicians has been dedicated to carrying forward the art of New Orleans jazz since.
When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 11
Where: Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, Stateline
Cost: $33.02 plus fees
10. The Temptations at MontBleu Resort
Legendary doo-wop outfit the Temptations — one of the most successful groups in music history, having sold tens of millions of albums — will bring their distinct harmonies to the South Shore on Saturday. The Temptations perform with one living original member, Otis Williams.
When: 8 p.m. Saturday, June 11
