TAHOE-TRUCKEE, Calif. — Below are the Sierra Sun’s picks for the Top 10 events to check out this weekend at Truckee and Lake Tahoe.

1. Sierra 4×4 Trails and Ales at Tahoe Donner



The second annual Sierra 4×4 Trails and Ales event includes a shine-and-show contest, live music, kids’ games, a raffle, a beer tasting, BBQ, 4×4 vendors and a trail ride the following day. Attending this event is free, while BBQ and beverages will be available for purchase.

When: 1-4 p.m. Saturday, July 16

2. Wanderlust Squaw Valley

Yoga, meditation, lectures, workshops, outdoor adventure, whole foods and live music come to together at this annual Tahoe-themed Wanderlust Festival. Yeasayer, Stephen Marley and Beats Antique headline the musical proton of this year’s event, with Seane Corn, Shiva Rea and Sri Dhamra Mittra among the top yoga practitioners.

When: Friday-Sunday, July 14-17

3. Cultural Land Tour hike at Lacy Meadows

Join Trails & Vistas’ Jean Fournier and Truckee Donner Land Trust’s KV Van Lom for a unique hiking experience, featuring en plein air painters and live music at Webber Lake and Lacy Meadows. Learn about the amazing stories of the historic Webber Hotel and enjoy live art in the meadow.

When: 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Friday, July 15

Where: Meet at Donner Historical Camp, Truckee

Cost: $20 plus fees

4. Tainted Love at Crystal Bay Casino

Tainted Love, an acclaimed cover band based in San Francisco, will bring a deep collection of ‘80s hits to the North Shore, including songs like Rick Springfield’s “Jessie’s Girl,” Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” and Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’.”

When: 9 p.m. Saturday, July 16

Where: Crystal Bay Casino Crown Room

Cost: $20 advance, $25 day of show

5. Tunnel Vision at CBC

Tunnel Vision — a Southern California-based five-piece outfit meshing surf, reggae and ska — will bring its laid-back, head-bobbing sound to the Crystal Bay Casino for a free show Friday.

6. Music in the Castle at Vikingsholm

Violinist Mr. John Metros will join Concert Pianist Dr. David Nelson with guest musicians for a very special concert to be held inside Vikingsholm featuring Scandinavian music themes. The concert features the custom six-legged Steinway piano, commissioned by the home’s original owner in 1929. A wine and hors d’oeuvres reception follows the concert. Guests will meet at D.L. Bliss State Park and drive into Emerald Bay.

7. Sunset Kayak Tour

Looking for a great way to end your Friday? Paddle across Lake Tahoe and stargaze during a Sunset Friday Kayak Tour. The tour will cover some astronomy and cover the perfect distance before landing on the beach for some hot drinks, snacks, and more stargazing.

When: 6-9 p.m. Friday, July 15

8. Boz Scaggs at MontBleu Resort

Legendary singer-songwriter Boz Scaggs — known for hit singles like “Lowdown,” and “Lido Shuffle” from the critically acclaimed album Silk Degrees (1976) — will bring his unmistakable blend of rock, blues and soul to the South Shore this weekend.

9. Sting & Peter Gabriel at Harvey’s Lake Tahoe

Iconic rock stars Peter Gabriel and Sting will bring their co-headline “Rock Paper Scissors” tour to the South Shore on Friday. Making the tour a true team effort, the Grammy Award-winning artists will switch back and forth between each other’s legendary songs and even play a few songs together during the performance.

10. Eric Lindell at Moe’s Original BBQ

Singer-songwriter Eric Lindell — described by USA Today as “pumping soul into funk, blue and roots-rock” — will bring his throwback blue-eyed soul sound to the North Shore on Saturday.
