Fireworks enthusiasts have a couple of options to choose from at Lake Tahoe this Labor Day weekend.
The South Shore will host its annual Labor Day fireworks display, and a more freshly minted display will also take place in Carnelian Bay at Lake Tahoe’s North Shore.
Gar Woods Grill & Pier and The Monte Foundation will host their second annual Fireworks Spectacular just off the Gar Woods pier Sunday night.
The approximately 25-minute display is expected to start around 8:15 p.m., said Kimberly Moore, marketing director for Gar Woods.
The nearby beach and the pier itself probably provide the best places to view the fireworks, Moore said.
Gar Woods’ Labor Day fireworks began in 2013 as an event to raise money for North Shore sports programs. Last year the event raised more than $14,000.
At South Shore, an annual Labor Day Weekend Fireworks Extravaganza is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
“The pyrotechnic show is approximately 18 minutes and is simultaneous musical broadcast on local radio stations KRLT-FM 93.9 and KOWL-AM 1490,” according to a press release from organizers. “There are multiple places that seem to be the best viewing grounds for the show: Nevada Beach, Timber Cove, Edgewood Tahoe, or the popular Lakeview Commons/El Dorado Beach. Boarding a boat, such as Tahoe Queen or M.S. Dixie II, private cruise on Lake Tahoe Boat Rides offers great vantage points.”
Slightly more off-the-beaten-path spots to view the fireworks include the Tallac Historic Site west of Camp Richardson or Bijou Community Park, off Al Tahoe Boulevard, in South Lake Tahoe.
