$170,000 raised for Tahoe Forest Hospital cancer programs

TRUCKEE, Calif. — More than 300 guests attended the 16th annual Best of Tahoe Chefs on May at the Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe, helping raise $170,000 for the Gene Upshaw Tahoe Forest Cancer Center patient and family programs.
The Best of Tahoe Chefs event has raised $1,071,170 since 2009.
"We celebrate the results of Best of Tahoe Chefs with our dedicated committee members, participating chefs, the Tahoe Forest Hospital Foundation Board, the Cancer Advisory Council and our community members who attend the event for their enthusiasm and support," said Martha Simon, Director of Fund Development for the Tahoe Forest Health System Foundation. "The Best of Tahoe Chefs ensures our patient and family programs are funded and continue to provide innovative cancer care in our region."
The Best of Tahoe Chefs committee is composed of Schatzi Boyd, Alison Elder, Carey Hood, Christine Madden, Rosie Parker and Robin Ward.
The patient and family support programs play an important role in cancer treatment, and are offered at no charge to patients and families of the Cancer Center.
The programs address the social, psychological, emotional and functional needs before, during and after the course of treatment. An integrated approach is used to improve the quality of life for the patient, the family and the caregiver.

Types of programs include transportation, hotel rooms, grocery store gift cards, the Exercise for Energy program, wigs and mastectomy products, counseling and therapy sessions for patients and caregivers, the WeCARE peer navigator program and more.
