Incline Community Blood Drive is Friday
June 11, 2014
The Incline Community Blood Drive will take place 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, June 13, at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Non-Profit Center at 948 Incline Way.
No matter your blood type, residents have something somebody needs to live, especially during summertime when donations drop but the need continues, said Monika Wiegers, Donor Recruitment Representative for United Blood Services.
Although people's bodies allow them to donate whole blood every 56 days, most donors only give once or twice a year, Wiegers said.
"An extra donation this spring and summer will help prevent a shortage," she said.
Most healthy people who are at least 16-years-old and who weigh at least 110 pounds are eligible to make a blood donation.
On average, 125 donors are needed per day to meet the needs of area hospitals.

"Donating blood is the gift that doesn't cost anything to give and you can help save a life," Wiegers said.
United Blood Services has been the area's nonprofit community blood provider since 1956, and serves patients in 22 hospitals and clinics in the Northern Nevada and Eastern Sierra.
All presenting donors from June 1 to Sept. 6, including at the Incline blood drive, will be able to enter a drawing to win a new 2014 Toyota Corolla 4-door sedan, according to United Blood Services. All entrants must fill out an entry form, be 18 years of age or older, and have a valid driver's license to enter.
