North Tahoe parents address teenage drug use at town hall
November 16, 2016
Forty parents and community partners met Sept. 29 at the Tahoe City PUD to discuss concerns regarding local teens and drug use. In addition to learning about teen brain development from Tahoe Truckee School Psychologist Sarah Diprinzio, parents came away with education on the newer marijuana edibles, increased potency and "Dabs" (marijuana concentrate). Education included teen misuse of Xanax and other prescription drugs, as well as "Molly Water" and ecstasy use. Parents identified multiple issues they wanted to work on at a follow up meeting being held next Wednesday Nov. 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at North Tahoe High School "Laker Lab".
The subjects to be covered include:
Supervision and safety at local community events like music nights, outdoor movie night, and local teen hangouts.
Signs, symptoms and "red flag"s of teen drug use.
Great parent and teen communication.
Parent-to-parent networking and how to talk to another parent when you know his or her teen is using drugs or alcohol.
