TAHOE CITY, Calif. — Concerts at Commons Beach, Tahoe City’s free outdoor summer concert series, is in the running to amplify its musical offerings with a $25,000 grant for the 2016 summer season.

Sponsored by Levitt Pavilions, the national nonprofit behind the largest free concert series in America, Concerts at Commons Beach hopes to qualify as one of the 15 winning organizations competing in the #LevittAMP Grant Awards.

The awards serve small to mid-sized towns and cities up to 400,000 people. Fifteen nonprofits, or municipalities partnering with a nonprofit, will receive up to $25,000 each in matching funds to produce their own Levitt AMP Music Series — an outdoor, free concert series featuring a diverse lineup of professional musicians.

“A successful campaign for Concerts at Commons Beach depends on community participation to get as many online votes as possible to bring the concert series to town,” according to the Tahoe City Downtown Association, which puts on the outdoor concert series. “Community support, as measured by the number of online votes received, will be one of the key factors when Levitt Pavilions selects the 15 winners.”

Recently, the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation partnered with TCDA and the Tahoe City Public Utility District to submit the proposal for Tahoe City.

The proposed venue site is Commons Beach, where the concerts have occurred for the last several years.

Tahoe City’s proposal is now posted on the Levitt AMP website for public voting.  Supporters are asked to go here to register and vote. Online public voting ends Nov. 30 at 5 p.m. Pacific Time.

According to Levitt, the Top 25 finalists will be selected through online public voting. Levitt Pavilions will then review the proposals, and the 15 Levitt AMP winners will be announced on Jan. 5, 2016.

“Concerts at Commons Beach is thrilled to be considered,” said Stacie Lyans, TCDA executive director. “Receiving a $25,000 Levitt AMP Grant will really help us amplify our annual concert series with high caliber musicians and bring more national exposure to Tahoe City.”

According to Levitt, voters will receive a confirmation email after they register. An individual voter may vote for up to five different proposals, but can only vote for each proposal once.

According to a news release, proposals which have strong community support, as displayed by number of votes received, will be more competitive during the final selection process.
