INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — Shakespeare under the stars will return to Lake Tahoe this weekend, featuring arguably the best summer lineup in years.

The 43rd Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival begins Friday and includes rotating performances of the romantic tragedy “Romeo and Juliet” and the musical “The Fantasticks.”

“Romeo and Juliet” and “The Fantasticks” will be performed in rotating repertory by a single company of actors at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays until Aug. 23.

Known as “The Greatest Love Story Ever Told,” Romeo and Juliet is “Shakespeare’s powerfully poetic and tragic tale of love and loss (that) will steal your heart and leave you breathless. Transcending the hate of warring factions, two young, star-crossed lovers risk all they have to be together. However, the same passion that stirs the lovers’ hearts also fuels the wrath of their feuding families and exacts heart-rending results,” according to the festival.

It marks only the third time the Tahoe festival has produced a Romeo and Juliet performance. Previous shows were in 2007 and 1998.

A multi-event Monday Night Showcase and new Summer Encore Showcase will augment the Festival’s 2015 main stage productions and feature an array of live music and entertainment from a variety of genres, according to a press release from the festival.

Monday Night Showcase performances will run from July 20 through Aug. 17 and Summer Encore Showcase performances will run from Aug. 27 through Sept. 12.

The festival annually draws more than 30,000 people from across the country.

Regularly priced tickets range from $15-$89. Tickets may be purchased at laketahoeshakespeare.com, or via phone at 800-747-4697.

Discounts are also available for groups of 10 or more. For group info and reservations, call 775-298-0154.
