Tahoe City Wine Walk pops cork on 11th annual event Saturday

TAHOE CITY, Calif. — On Saturday afternoon, hundreds of people will pour into downtown Tahoe City to sip wine, sample gourmet food and drink in the striking views of Lake Tahoe.

Featuring tastings from roughly 30 wineries and restaurants, as well as entertainment from three local music acts, the Tahoe City Wine Walk pops the cork on its 11th year this weekend.

"This is an exceptional event because it brings locals and visitors to downtown Tahoe City — it allows them to sip, shop and explore our community," said Stacie Lyans, executive director of Tahoe City Downtown Association. "It provides a great signature event in downtown Tahoe City and brings visitors from near and far into our community. So it's really a kickoff event to the summer."

Since its inception, the Tahoe City Wine Walk has grown from a few hundred "wine walkers" to close to 1,000 attendees from the Truckee-Tahoe region and beyond.

With this year's walk, presented by Oliver Luxury Real Estate, dovetailing with the Tahoe City Solstice Festival, the event may see its highest attendance to date.

"It's become a tradition for a lot of our visitors, and the locals absolutely love it," Lyans said. "What better place to drink some wine and eat some gourmet bites and look at the lake? We're lucky to live in the paradise of Tahoe City."

Along with an array of fine wines, participants also have the option to sample micro brews and high-end spirits. Non-alcoholic offerings will also be available, Lyans said.

Participating wineries include Ferrari-Carano Vineyards and Winery, Sierra Sky Winery and Twisted Rivers, along with food options from Wolfdale's, Tahoe City Chocolates and Moe's Original BBQ, among many others.

A big highlight of the event, Lyans said, is that it also gives residents and visitors the opportunity to get a taste of Tahoe City's boutique shops downtown.

"When I talk with business owners in downtown Tahoe City, this is by and large their favorite event," Lyans said. "It really gives them an extra push from the visitors coming to the city. It's a great opportunity for our business community to truly shine."

Also, while attendees sip, shop and explore downtown Tahoe City, they will be soundtracked by live music from local acts the Roemers, Burninearl and the DNB (Drunken Neighbors Band), and Dan Copeland.

The Roemers, a five-piece family band from the West Shore, will play a blend of funk, blues and rock, concocting renditions of classic covers by Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers, Carlos Santana, among others.

Burninearl and the DNB will bring Americana-centric stylings to the mix, while local balladeer Dan Copeland will perform melodious songs on his acoustic guitar.
