1. Lake Tahoe weather: 2 feet of snow wallops Sierra, avalanche closes Alpine Meadows Road
This web-only story included several updates throughout the morning and day of last week’s snowstorm overnight Wednesday and Thursday morning that dumped more than 2 feet of snow up top, and a solid foot or more at lake and ground level.
The storm triggered natural avalanche activity near Alpine Meadows ski resort, forcing the closure of the resort all day, and Alpine Meadows Road for several hours after two slides hit a car and bus, and damaging one home. No injuries were reported.

2. Tahoe City man, 31, killed in DUI wreck; driver to be charged with murder
Patrick D. Elliott, 28, of Pike, Calif., was charged with felony DUI and second-degree murder in connection with a single-vehicle wreck Jan. 13 on Highway 49 in Yuba County.
Of the two passengers in the truck Elliott drove, Nathan Boyd, 31, of Tahoe City, died in the crash. The other passenger wasn’t hurt. Visit gofundme.com/a9nwb56k to donate to Boyd’s family.

3. Two arrested on murder suspicion in fatal Tahoe shooting
Police last week arrested two men they believe were involved in the fatal shooting of a 40-year-old Amador County man in South Lake Tahoe on Jan. 30.
Tristan Batten, 18, and Harvest Davidson, 20 — arrested in Vallejo and Sacramento, Calif., respectively — have been charged with one count of murder; police say other suspects are still being sought.

4. Woman, 77, killed after skiing into tree at Lake Tahoe resort
Kathryn Strangman, 77, of Madison, Wis., died from injuries suffered after skiing into a tree on Feb. 16 at Heavenly Mountain Resort at the intersection of Crossover and Comet ski runs, high on the Nevada side of the South Tahoe resort.
Both runs are intermediate level blue slopes. Officials deemed the incident “an unfortunate accident.”

5. Lake Tahoe weather: 12 to 20 inches of snow possible by Thursday morning
This web-only story served as a preview of last week’s winter storm. While initial forecasts called for a storm watch, and then a warning, with 12 to 20 inches of snow possible, the storm ended up dumping roughly 30 inches in some locations.
