427 county-wide citations issued during district driving patrols

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office participated in a Joining Forces distracted driving awareness campaign Feb. 12-23 that led to 195 citations in the county for distracted driving.

The Reno and Sparks police departments and Nevada Highway Patrol participated in the effort to enforce distracted driving laws, according to a WCSO press release.

Specific to WCSO, which also patrols Incline Village, deputes made 344 traffic stops county-wide during the campaign, issuing 427 citations (some people got more than one).



Citations include 195 for distracted driving, 97 for speeding, 38 for failure to show proof of insurance, 35 driver’s license related violations and 27 motor vehicle registration violations, among others. Twenty-five warnings were issued.

The Nevada-funded Joining Forces grant is a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement program that promotes statewide enforcement in the areas of: DUI, distracted driving, seat belt, and speed and pedestrian safety. Visit ots.nv.gov to learn more.
