50 Basin home allocations ready

Placer County received 50 residential allocations from the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency to distribute over 2008 ” the same number of allocations received last year.

But at the end of 2007, the county was left with a dozen or more unused allocations that will be thrown back into the TRPA’s allotment pool. The number of leftover allocations ranges between 13 and 18, and won’t be determined until the final requests go through.

The county, however, is looking into whether they can capture the unused allocations and reserve them for special projects expected to come down the line in the near-future, said Jennifer Merchant of Placer County.

Whether the county will distribute all of its allocations this year is uncertain, officials say. At this time last year the Placer County Building Department in the Tahoe Basin received 39 applicants. But so far this year, they’ve only received two applications, said Kirk Smith, Placer County’s supervising building inspector.

But including the 32 applicants who submitted forms at the last minute in December, as part of a short-form program to avoid strenuous changes in the building code, Smith said the number of applicants is on par with past levels.
