Airport planning document to be aired

Staff reportsThe plan designed to ensure compatibility between the Truckee airport and surrounding land use, may finally be adopted at Wednesday’s Foothill Area Land Use Commission meeting at 2 p.m. at Truckee Town Hall. The plan, which is an update of the 1986 version, is scheduled to be adopted under a negative declaration environmental report, meaning the land use plan is determined to have no significant impacts and therefore provide no mitigation. The environmental review of the project has prompted disagreement during public meetings, with some residents saying that the plan should undergo an environmental impact report or include mitigation. The initial study of environmental impacts on the compatibility plan notes that the plan can be overridden by local governmental jurisdictions. The environmental review and whether monitoring of the flight paths used in the compatibility plan to see if the plan’s assumptions on flight patterns are accurate, will likely be two points discussed at the meeting. The Town of Truckee decided last week to submit a letter asking for flight pattern monitoring following the adoption of the compatibility plan.
