Airport shuttle exceeds expectations in first year

INCLINE VILLAGE ” After celebrating a year in operation, the North Lake Tahoe Express is aiming for more ridership and revenues this year, said Jan Colyer, executive director for the Truckee North Tahoe Transportation Management Association.

“It’s a success story,” Colyer said. “We just still need more ridership and revenue.”

More than 17,000 people rode the service that provides daily scheduled airport service. However, the service pulled in about $150,000 less in revenues than Colyer was hoping.

In the upcoming year, Colyer said she hopes to garner higher revenues by providing large groups with better reservation service. She said she and staff have begun to work with online booking agencies to increase the number of passengers.

Other resort officials are hoping a good snowfall this winter will draw more people to North Lake Tahoe and increase traffic.

“We’d like to see passengers double,” said Bill Hoffman, the executive director of the Incline Village Crystal Bay Visitors Bureau. “Is that realistic? I don’t know. A lot has to do with Mother Nature and snow. Our loads last winter were nowhere near what they could have been.”

Overall, most resort association officials said the shuttle has provided a much needed service to the North Shore.

The North Lake Tahoe Express provides daily service from the North Shore to Reno.
