Alleged dog shooter hearing postponed

Legal proceedings for Josh Hunt, the Truckee man arrested for the shooting of an East Deerfield Drive dog earlier this year, have been postponed until April 24.

Hunt, 20, was charged with three felony counts: cruelty to animals, grand theft and possession of stolen property, and one misdemeanor count of illegal dumping of an animal carcass. He was released on a $10,000 bond.

The investigation began on Jan. 13 when Nevada County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Truckee Animal Control officers responded to a call by an East Deerfield Drive resident who was missing their dog and found a large bloodstain on the road.

About an hour later, another caller alerted Animal Control that a dog’s body had been found on Euer Valley Road off of Indian Jack Road just north of Interstate 80. That dog was determined to be the missing mastiff.

An animal autopsy showed the dog died from gunshot wounds. No other trauma leading to the death was determined.
