‘How to Write a Blog that Stands Out’

Are you interested in learning the art of blogging to improve your business? Attend a free small business seminar, “How to Build a Blog That Stands Out,” on Thursday, May 8, 8-9:30 a.m. at the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach. The seminar will be taught by Karen Terrey of Tangled Roots Writing and is sponsored by Charter Business and North Tahoe Business Association. Blogging offers a way to reach your audience with a message in your own voice that taps into your customers’ specific needs. Professional writing coach Karen Terrey will offer tips for writing a blog post that encourages readers to visit and return to your site. Get started and add depth to blog posts to increase your audience and learn in-bound linking to increase website traffic.

The workshop focuses on time-saving techniques for writing posts that strengthen the quality of a blog. Terrey will focus on community-building actions that promote a business’s blog while maximizing the benefits of the blog.

Prior to the workshop, spend time surfing blogs online. Write down the URL, what you like, (and what you don’t like) and consider these techniques when writing your own blog.

Personal Branding via Social Media session

Business owners, employers, employees and hiring managers who need to join the LinkedIn and Twitter conversation are invited to attend “Build Your Professional Online Profile,” a session focused on personal branding via social media on Wednesday, May 21, 9 a.m.-noon at the Cedar House Sports Hotel, 10918 Brockway Road in Truckee.

Employers, potential clients and prospective employees see your online profile and personal brand. Be prepared by building a professional online profile. Sponsored by the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee Donner Chambers of Commerce in partnership with the Sierra Human Resources Association, participants will learn customer relationship management and search tools, as well as participate in a live Twitter demonstration.

Register by May 20 and pay online at http://www.sierrahra.org. The cost to participate is $39 for SHRA and SHRM members, $49 for Chamber members, $59 for non-members. Beverages and snacks will be provided at 8:30 a.m.

Workshop speaker Kathy Chan, SPHR is the humarn resourcees vice president for JMA Ventures, LLC and co-president of the Sierra HR Association. She has recruited, vetted and hired hundreds of candidates from entry to executive level. Kirstin Guinn is an expert in online communications who manages social media platforms and improves marketing productivity and performance in the travel and tourism, restaurant and higher education industries.

Ski Butlers raises $1,600 for Protect Our Winters

Ski Butlers “Round-Up” program raised $1,600 for Protect Our Winters (POW) for the 2013/14 season. POW is nonprofit group leading the fight against climate change and was founded on the massive collective power of the winter sports community.

“This is a natural fit for Ski Butlers and personal passion of mine to be working with POW,” said Bryn Carey, president and founder of Ski Butlers.

Core Value #7 is to Make a Difference in the Community. The round-up program raises money for local nonprofits in the winter sports industry. Customers can “round-up” their bill to the nearest dollar or donate a flat amount of $5, $10, or $20.
