Lake Tahoe School, in collaboration with Tahoe Family Solutions, is kicking off the fifth annual Adopt-A-Family program with a ‘Giving Tree’ full of families’ wishes for the holidays.

TFS, a Nevada Family Resource Center, works with more than 100 families per year, assisting with applications, translations, case management and referrals to community services.

TFS chooses 12 families most in need during the holidays and asks for three wishes from each family member, which are written on ornaments and hung on the Giving Tree in the Lake Tahoe School lobby.

Wishes include clothing, shoes, jackets, blankets, pots and pans and other household necessities. More than 90 percent of all wishes are for warm winter clothing.

Most of the wishes are fulfilled by Lake Tahoe School parents, who have provided gifts for more than 200 family members in the last four years, but other community members are welcome to choose an ornament, purchase a gift, and return it to the school.

The LTS students, led by the LTS student council, then wrap all of the gifts, and TFS distributes them to the families.

“Lake Tahoe School and our student council are proud to work alongside TFS with this wonderful program,” said Madeleine Saxe, LTS Student Council Vice-President. “Our Giving Tree is set-up in our school lobby with ornaments that will ultimately help many families in our area, so please stop by and help us make the Holidays special for everyone.”
