Incline Village community Notes: Feb. 24, 2016
Special to the Bonanza
The full moon at the beginning of the week was beautiful, but it sure brought about some unusual challenges all around the village. I really think my computer is being controlled by the moon.
That said, hooray, it is Oscars weekend. Get ready to see, hear and feel all of the excitement on Sunday, Feb. 28, as they roll out the red carpet.
At 6 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at Incline High School, attend the annual Vintage vs. Varsity Basketball game. I have been informed that a few brave “mature” men purchased a spot on the Vintage team in hopes of reclaiming their own glory days (or at least keeping up with) the IHS Varsity basketball team. There will be a 3 point contest for various age groups and entertainment for all!
At Tahoe’s Connection for Families, Kim Warren Holscher will teach a baby sign language class starting Monday, March 7. Each session will be from 4 to 4:45 p.m., and parents and babies (between 5 months and 2.5 years) attend the classes together. Please email email@example.com or call 775-250-2089 for information.
It is time, Bunco ladies, for the annual SnowFest! Ladies Night Out Bunco Bash. This fun event is 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, at the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach. This year’s event will benefit the Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center, the Sierra Senior Services, and local Chef Scott and Shelby Yorkey, to help with expenses during their daughter, Kyla’s, leukemia treatments. For information, call Carol King at 530-546-7542.
The community is invited to honor North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District Chief Michael Brown at a retirement celebration from 4-7 p.m. Friday, March 18, at The Chateau. No need to RSVP.
Remember to save the date for the annual Incline Star Follies April 22-23 at the Incline High School Theater. I will announce when tickets go on sale as soon as I know they are available.
Yes, I do have some bowling news. Congratulations to Susan Herron. She won her age division at the Carson Country Senior Bowling Tournament held in January! And now she will be competing in the State Senior Championship Tournament. Good luck Susan.
I have one birthday to report this week, and even though she moved away she continues to communicate with our community, so Happy Birthday to Jackie Peacock on Feb. 27.
The Deal or Steal for this week is to throw an Academy Award party on Sunday. You can host the event in one of our local establishments or in the privacy of your own home. Pick up decorations and costumes too, at Dress the Party and have fun!
As always send in your birthdays, anniversaries and news, along with the best deals or steals you can find, before 5 p.m. on Tuesday to firstname.lastname@example.org.
