Incline Village community notes: March 2, 2016

Yes, pothole season is back! Please be extra careful if snow covers our village again, as the potholes will still be waiting to attack your vehicles and you will not see the monsters until you are in one! Let’s hope the snow does return as we do need more quickly.

Incline High School hosts the annual Vintage vs. Varsity Basketball game at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 5. A few brave “mature” men purchased a spot on the Vintage team in hopes of at least keeping up with the IHS Varsity basketball team. Good luck to both teams! There will be a 3-point contest for various age groups and entertainment for all!

The Incline Village Republican Women’s Club invites the community at 11:30 a.m. March 8 to the Chateau to hear political pundit Fred Lokken of Truckee Meadows Community College. He is the leading expert on government and elections in Nevada. To attend this event, RSVP to Shirley Appel at 775-831-1505 by Saturday, March 5.

SnowFest! Ladies Night Out Bunco Bash is 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, at the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach. This year’s event will benefit the Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center, the Sierra Senior Services, and local Chef Scott and Shelby Yorkey, to help with expenses during their daughter, Kyla’s, leukemia treatments. For information or to donate to this great local event, please call Carol King at 530-546-7542.

Attend a fundraiser for Incline Middle School’s outdoor education at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 11, at the Crystal Bay Club. This is a Totally ‘80s Dance party and lip sync competition. Tickets available at Potlatch and Crystal Bay Club.

North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District’s Chief Michael Brown will be honored at a community retirement celebration from 4-7 p.m. Friday, March 18, at The Chateau. The event is being sponsored by NLTFPD and IVGID. No need to RSVP.

Save the date for the annual Incline Star Follies April 22-23 at the Incline High School Theater. I will announce when tickets go on sale as soon as I know they are available.

I have birthdays to report this week: Mary McCormick on March 4, Jerry Hagy on March 5, Steve King on March 8, and Bonanza Editor Kevin MacMillan on March 9. Happy Birthday!

The Deal or Steal for this week is the display at the Incline Village Library. Beautiful handmade treasures all crafted by members of the local quilt group, known as Bee Inclined Quilters will be on display in the library until the end of April.

As always send in your birthdays, anniversaries and news, along with the best deals or steals you can find, before 5 p.m. on Tuesday to jeanmeick@aol.com.
