Nevada County flu shots



Nevada County Public Health Department will offer flu shots for a cost of $15 in Truckee. Children, Oct. 3, Nov. 7, and Dec. 5, 1-4 p.m. at the Nevada County Joseph Center, Donner Room, 10075 Levon Ave., Truckee. Adults starting Oct. 9, every Wednesday by appointment only, 10 a.m.-noon. Weight Watchers meeting to move

The North Lake Tahoe Weight Watchers Meeting is moving to Wednesday nights at the Tahoe Biltmore, in the Nevada Room, starting on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Weigh-In will be 5:30-6 p.m., meeting starts at 6 p.m. New and old members are welcome. Free registration until Oct. 19. Call 1-800-537-6805 for information.

Walktober kick off at TCHSP

Walktober, a free community walking challenge organized by the Tahoe Forest Health System Community Health Department, is designed to motivate Truckee/Tahoe residents of all ages to get up and get moving. Sign up at no cost as individuals or as teams, and try to walk 10,000 steps every day during October. After sending weekly step totals, walkers are entered into a weekly raffle. A grand prize will be given to the individual and team who took the most steps in October. At the Oct. 1 kickoff, 6:15-7:15 p.m. at the Tahoe Center for Health and Sports Performance, participants will learn to set the stride on their pedometers (available for purchase), receive tips on walking technique and learn stretches. Kickbox Community Day

The first Monday of every month is now Kickbox Community day, with two classes offered for a $5 drop-in fee. Classes are located at Performance Training Center in Truckee, visit http://www.performancetruckee.com. Mammograms available

Throughout the month of October, Tahoe Forest Hospital will offer a free gift for anyone getting a first-time mammogram. TFH also will hold a drawing for a free mammogram. If you refer a friend who is a first-timer, you both get a free gift. Funding is available for a limited number of screening through a special grant made available by the Susan G Komen for the Cure Foundation. Briner Imaging at Tahoe Forest Hospital offers the very latest in digital mammography. Screening exams are quick, easy and read by our board certified radiologists. No doctor order is necessary for a screening mammogram. Follow-up care is available. To schedule please call 530-582-6510.

Bar Effect class for mom, art for kids

Owner of the Bar Effect in Truckee, trainer Michelle Rahlves is instructing Tuesday, 5:30 p.m. and Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. group Bar Effect Classes at the CR Johnson Healing Center.
