Music lessons and classes

Tahoe Music Institute is currently registering students for fall session of lessons and classes, which are taught by highly qualified and motivated instructors. A+ fall registration announced

Looking for a place where your child will be safe and cared for? Where your children will be nurtured through their educational journey? Then A+ is the place. Ten of their teachers have a Bachelor’s degree, and two have their Master’s. A+ works with Tahoe Lake School, Kings Beach Elementary, North Tahoe School, Creekside Charter School, Tahoe State Preschool, and Tahoe Community Nursery School.

Their goal is to assist your child to complete and check homework for accuracy. Bus transportation is provided by the school district. A bus pass is required. A+ is fully licensed by the state of California. A+ Preschool is for children who are 3 and 4 years of age. They must be toilet trained and ready for group experience. Full day and half day care, five days a week. A+ provides transportation from Tahoe Community Nursery School. Preschoolers attending Tahoe State Preschool may ride the district school bus from Tahoe Lake School. A+ Preschool is fully licensed by the state of California. “Birthing from Within” is a child birth preparation class facilitated by child birth mentor and doula Marissa Mignone. This series of five Saturday morning classes, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. will begin Sept. 7. “Baby Massage” is a series of four classes for parents of infants, newborn to crawling. The class will be taught on Wednesdays, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The series of four classes is $48 and scholarships are available. “Baby and Me” is a six-class series for parents and infants under 12 months taught by longtime lactation consultant and nursing professional Cindy Bansen, beginning on Friday, Sept. 27, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The series of six classes is $72 and scholarships are available.

Dining for Schools Cards to go on sale

Dine for half off at 43 North Tahoe and Truckee restaurants and help raise money to support Tahoe Truckee schools when you purchase a Tahoe Truckee Excellence in Education Foundation Dining for Schools Card.

New this year, the Foundation welcomes Restaurant Trokay, Tavern 6330 and TC’s Pub at Northstar to the program. The Dining for Schools Card costs $50 and entitles the bearer to 50 percent off any individual dinner entree at each participating restaurant in the Truckee and North Tahoe area. The card is non-transferable but may be used an unlimited number of times at any participating restaurant during the valid period. Cards are valid Sunday through Thursday only, (holidays excluded) Sunday, Sept. 8 through Thursday, Dec. 9, 2013 and Sunday, April 6 through Thursday, June 19, 2014. Several restaurants offer an extended period from Sunday, Jan. 5 through Thursday, March 27, 2014.

The Dining for Schools program is one of the Foundation’s primary fundraising programs contributing more than $40,000 annually to the organization’s giving programs.

‘High Sierra Edible Garden Tour’

Slow Food Lake Tahoe will host a guided tour of beautiful High Sierra Edible Gardens, Sept. 8, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Prosser and Truckee edible gardens of all shapes and sizes will be visited, from a four-season growing dome to a single-family, backyard veggie garden. Participants will leave with ideas for their own garden space and a few resources to get started. This event builds on Slow Food Lake Tahoe’s mission to reconnect the community to the enjoyment of local, seasonal and sustainable food by getting people to share ideas on how to grow their own good, clean and fair food. Career and technical education day, Oct. 4

Sierra College, Rocklin has funded one bus for interested Tahoe Truckee Unified School District high school students, counselors and teachers to attend the annual Career and Technical Education open house on the Rocklin campus from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 4. All interested high school juniors and seniors should see their counselor for details and a permission slip. The bus will depart North Tahoe High School at 7 a.m., Truckee High School at 7:30 a.m. and return around 3 p.m. Attendees may also arrive by private transportation.
