Disable Sports Far West USA is looking for energetic, outgoing people to be on their special events team. This position will include helping to plan and implement fundraisers for Disabled Sports, located at the Alpine Meadows ski resort. Help raise funds crucial to the continuing operation of the adaptive snowsports programs, which helps individuals with disabilities participate in outdoor recreation. These programs provide breakthrough moments and opportunities for success for people with disabilities. Opportunities begin immediately, running through April 5. Opportunities include preparing for the Ability BASH auction and banquet at Squaw Valley on April 4, Wild Winter Wednesdays and the Snow Sculpture contest at River Ranch, Aloha Tuesdays at Jake’s on the Lake, and Fish Taco Night at Sunnyside Resort.

Tahoe Truckee Youth Suicide Task Force to meet

The Know the Signs campaign is part of statewide efforts to prevent suicide, reduce stigma and discrimination related to mental illness, and to promote the mental health and wellness of students.

These initiatives are funded by the Mental Health Services Act (Prop 63) and administered by the California Mental Health Services Authority (CalMHSA), an organization of county governments working to improve mental health outcomes for individuals, families and communities.

This campaign is intended to prepare individuals to prevent suicide by encouraging them to know suicide warning signs, find the words to offer help, and reach out to local resources.

The Tahoe Truckee Youth Suicide Prevention Task Force has chosen this educational campaign as the main focus for prevention strategies.

Patient and family support volunteers needed

Tahoe Forest Hospice is offering a volunteer training in April for hospice patient and family support volunteers to help patients and families who live in Truckee, North Tahoe, Incline Village and the Sierra Valley. Volunteering is an opportunity to help patients at end-of-life in your community

Provide companionship and friendship

Provide a break (respite) for caregivers

Errands and shopping

Other activities including reading, playing games, gardening and help with meals

Flexible hours

‘Turnip the Heat’ Tuesdays

Every Tuesday through March 11 there will be a Community Soup Night, 6-8:30 p.m. The dinner brings community together for an affordably priced meal made from fresh, sustainably grown ingredients. Each Soup Night will be held at a different eatery showcasing the skills of our local chefs. Cost is $5 for soup and bread. Raffle, music and drinks, also. Feb. 25 at Full Belly Deli (Truckee in the Pioneer Center). A collaboration of four nonprofit organizations committed to creating a more food-focused community: Tahoe Food Hub, Slow Food Lake Tahoe, Project MANA, and Truckee Family Resource Center!

Bunco Bash Cancer Center benefit

The 4th Annual SnowFest! Girls Night Out “Bunco Bash,” benefiting the Gene Upshaw Memorial Cancer Center at Tahoe Forest Hospital, will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 6-9 p.m. at the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach.

Leave the men at home and join a fun night out, including Bunco (no previous experience needed!), a raffle and silent auction, appetizers, beer and wine.
