Sunshine Letter: A wonderful tribute to North Lake Tahoe

I guess you could call us ex pats. We lived in Tahoe for over 20 years, raising our kids and learned to enjoy the ways of living in the mountains.

A few years ago my husband decided to explore another big lake. We now call Clear Lake home and are learning the ways of a lower elevation. But one of the elements that will never be forgotten is the spirit of the people who call Tahoe home.

Two weeks ago, the Special Olympics team of Lake County held their Polar Plunge fundraiser, and our son, John Jr., was right in there leading the pack of plungers into the chilly waters of Clear Lake. And there to witness John’s adventure was his high school football coach from North Tahoe, Skip Pieochinski, and his wife, Michele. They drove over just to support John. What a wonderful surprise.

I should also mention the tens of friends, teachers and coaches who signed on to pledge funds to sponsor John’s plunge. What a tribute to North Tahoe and the wonderful people who live there.
