Sunshine Letter: Read Up gives away 500 books to Truckee kids

On Friday, Oct. 30, the Truckee Library’s Read Up Literacy Program gave away 500 gently used children’s books with exciting stories and beautiful illustrations, both fiction and nonfiction, to the children and parents who participated in the Truckee Donner Park District’s Halloween Parade.

On behalf of the Truckee Read Up Program, I want to thank the Friends of the Nevada Co. Library and Alan Archer, Read Up Director, for collecting many of these wonderful children’s books.

I also wish to thank the two Read Up Volunteer Tutors, Connie Malfa and Jane Kundel, who worked with me the night of the Halloween event in assisting the children and parents in selecting grade level and age appropriate books after the Halloween Parade.
