Tahoe Donner donates kitchen equipment to Urban Roots
February 26, 2015
Tahoe Donner Association recently partnered with Urban Roots in Reno to offer $12,000 in refrigeration units to the nonprofit.
"We believe in actively participating in our community and neighboring areas through multiple facets including municipal enrichment," Tahoe Donner Capital Projects Manager Forrest Huisman said in a statement. "Urban Roots, which exemplifies community outreach is an organization we are proud to support."
In collaboration with the North Tahoe AmeriCorps program and students from the University of Nevada, Reno, Urban Roots offers classes and workshops to educate students, teachers and farmers while performing vital research to help create new techniques in sustainable farming in northern Nevada.
Tahoe Donner's donation will aid students in these opportunities.
"We will be putting it to use in our new food safety kitchen this spring," Urban Roots' FarmCorps Director MJ Pickett said in a statement. "Hundreds of students will be able to learn about nutrition and cooking with produce from their own gardens thanks to Tahoe Donner's donation."
