Tahoe League for Charity hosts David C. Antonucci
October 21, 2014
On Oct. 2, members of Tahoe League for Charity held a fundraising dinner at Petra's at Northstar Village.
Twenty-eight members and spouses were in attendance to enjoy a delicious meal and signature wines followed by a marshmallow roast and s'mores indulgence around the patio fire-pit.
TLC appreciates the fine fare and excellent service provided by Petra, a landmark Mediterranean bistro that has become a local favorite.
The Oct. 13 TLC meeting was held at Jakes on the Lake in Tahoe City, featuring Dave C. Antonucci, local author of "Snowballs Chance: The Story of the 1960 Winter Olympics" and "Fairest Picture: Mark Twain at Lake Tahoe."
"Snowball's Chance" describes a wide range of details on the Olympics, presented with a slide show showing Walt Disney's creative influence on the Squaw Valley site with ski sculptures and music.
This was the first Olympics to ever have musical opening and closing ceremonies, an Olympic Athlete's Village, use of composite skis for downhill racing, to have a computer to tabulate scores, a biathlon, and the first to be broadcast live throughout the country.

In his second book, "Fairest Picture," Antonucchi gives a detailed account of the adventures and experiences of Mark Twain as a tourist at Lake Tahoe. He includes all known Mark Twain quotations about The Lake with interpretation and context.
The TLC's Nov. 10 meeting will be held at Sunnyside Lodge and Restaurant at 11:30 a.m. There, TLC will be distributing a total of $4,000 to eight grant recipients — awarding $500 to each.
