Tahoe-Truckee Toys for Tots kickoff set for Community Thanksgiving party

Staff report

KINGS BEACH, Calif. — Because “every child deserves a little Christmas,” Tahoe Neighborhood Table (organizer of the Tahoe Community Thanksgiving Celebration and the Winter Warmth and Wellness Give Away) is teaming up with the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation to expand outreach to our area.

This year’s Tahoe Community Thanksgiving Celebration, organized annually by Meera Beser — who is Toys for Tots Coordinator for the Tahoe-Truckee Region this year — will also serve as the first Toys for Tots kickoff party.

Last year, the event served dinner to over 400 people. Entry has always been by donation, and at the top of the list is a new, unwrapped toy to be given away by Toys for Tots.

In addition, attendees can donate cash or volunteer to help out. All are welcome at the celebration set for 2-6:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 26, at the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach.

Direct donations to Toys for Tots will be gratefully received in the form of cash or check (with a designation for the Tahoe-Truckee Region) or via the organization’s website at tahoe-truckee.toysfortots.org.

Other kick-off parties are scheduled for Dec. 1 at Spindleshanks in Kings Beach; Dec. 2 at River Ranch in Tahoe City; Dec. 6 at Zano’s in Truckee; Dec. 10 at Rosie’s in Tahoe City; and the grand Kick-Off Party/North Shore Chamber Mixer is set for Dec. 11 at Sunnyside Resort $ Lodge on the West Shore.

The final date to donate toys is Dec. 15. Please note that the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation has very specific guidelines and wants to ensure all donations and toys collected go directly to our local children and do not leave the area.

This year’s Incline Village/Crystal Bay Toys for Tots will be coordinated by Beth Moxley; everything collected there stays local in Nevada.

On the California side of Lake Tahoe, toys and monetary donations received on the north and west shores will be distributed in those areas. Toys and monetary donations received in Truckee will be distributed in Truckee by Truckee Community Christmas.
