Village Notes: What’s happening in Incline Village

Jean Eick
Special to the Bonanza

Our village is pretty quiet again but we all know that as soon as we get closer to the end of November all we need to make it busy is for Mother Nature to start working on the snow machine. For now we can still get out and enjoy the warm afternoons.

Everyone is invited to attend the Sustainability Film Festival at Sierra Nevada College. The events run on Thursday, Friday and Saturday with exciting films, food and drink. For more information visit http://www.sieranevada.edu/sustain.

Monday is Veterans Day and many local businesses and offices will be closed. The Post Office, IVGID Administration Offices as well as the Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation will be closed, as will the schools and most banks. Please take time to say thank you to a veteran and we do have a lot of veterans in our community so it is not hard to find one.

It is time to talk turkey again. Project MANA’s Let’s Talk Turkey program provides a turkey along with all of the traditional items to local families in need. It is easy to participate — just drop off a frozen turkey, canned goods or a check to Project MANA in the Donald W. Reynolds Community Non-Profit Center at 948 Incline Way, Incline Village.

If you want to volunteer at the annual Tahoe Community Thanksgiving Celebration, please attend the 6 p.m. informational meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the North Tahoe Event Center. To learn more visit tahoecommunitythanksgiving@gmail.com or call Meera Beser at 775-230-1066.

The Mark Twain Cultural Center & Toccata Guttman Music Hall is featuring plenty of upcoming entertainment. For information and reservations call 775-833-1835.

Remember the Bowlers to Veterans Link starts at noon on Saturday, Nov. 9, at Gold Dust West. This is a 9 Pin No Tap Tournament for adults, youth, families, teens, really everyone is welcome and it is one fun tournament to participate in for all ages. It is $20 for adults and $13 for kids. Spectators are always welcome too. Go cheer for some of our local celebrity bowlers.

Happy Anniversary to Ed and Emy Gurowitz on Nov. 10.

A couple of birthdays to celebrate this week: Ron Birmingham and Katie Ferrall on Nov. 14. Happy Birthday!

The best deal and steal in the Village this week is at the Incline Village Library. If you have an overdue book you will not be fined if you return the book to the library no later than Nov. 25 along with one non-perishable food item.

As always send in your birthdays, anniversaries, and news, along with the best deals or steals you can find, to jeanmeick@aol.com.
