Village Notes: What’s happening in Incline Village

Down the hill they call it Hot August Nights, but at Tahoe, cool August nights are the best. Summer is definitely winding down at the lake and it is much easier now for locals to find time to enjoy, so go picnic, relax and remember why we live here.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, take the self-guided Tahoe Treasures Tour with Tea and Tapas. Tickets are $40 and available at The Potlatch. This is a fundraiser for the AAUW Tahoe Nevada members. Call Debbie at 775-843-0775 or email nicholas89451@gmail.com for more information.

This weekend is also the Teddy Bear Picnic on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Aspen Grove. This is sponsored by Tahoe’s Connection for Families. If you want more information visit http://www.tcfkids.org or call 775-832-8230.

The community is invited to an Open House from 3-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at the Incline Village Community Hospital. Information will be available from local health professionals as well as public service and safety organizations and will feature refreshments, live music and tours.

“Insights into Brain Health” is a free community forum taking place at 5:30 p.m on Thursday, Sept. 5, in the Donald W. Reynolds Community Non-Profit Center. World-class experts from the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Brain Center in Las Vegas will present information on Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, and talk about the state-of-the-art patient care and treatments available. Community sponsors include Incline Village Community Hospital, The North Lake Tahoe Bonanza and The Sierra Sun. The forum is free but please reserve your spot at http://www.parasol.org/reservations or call Jean Eick at 775-298-0184.

Tickets are available to attend The Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation 2013 Community Table on Friday, Sept. 6, at the Shakespeare Ranch in Glenbrook. Chef Nancy Oakes and her staff from Boulevard in San Francisco will be preparing an amazing dinner for this event. Visit http://www.parasol.org for tickets.

Happy anniversary to Bob and Annette Mimiaga this week!

Birthdays to celebrate: Elise Gut on Aug. 12; also on Aug. 12 is Phil Zaragoza, and it is predicted that he is going to try to shoot his age on the Incline Championship Golf Course; Rad Birmingham and Allison Eybel on Aug. 13; and Pete Todoroff on Aug. 15. Happy Birthday!

The best deal in the village this week is the family golf day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mountain Course. It features Goofy Golf, giant cups and fun food. Visit http://www.golfincline.com or call 866-925-4653.

As always send in your birthdays, anniversaries, and news, along with the best deals or steals you can find, to jeanmeick@aol.com.
