Village Notes: What’s happening in Incline Village

Special to the Bonanza

Oh my goodness, our bears are so busy this fall. Please take time to lock your doors, and not just the car doors, but also lock the doors to your homes and businesses.

The bears are no longer interested in trash cans — they want the good life, and even though they probably do not want to work, they would love to visit your business to see what is available.

Of course kitchens are also favorite locations, and if you are leaving town for the winter, take extra care to empty out the cupboards, pantry and garage, or you will return in the spring to guests.

Thursday, Sept. 11, is Patriot Day. Plan now to observe this day and all of the memories as we mark the anniversary of “nine-eleven.” The official time designated to acknowledge all 2,977 people that lost their lives with a moment of silence is 5:46 a.m. Pacific time.

The Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation welcomes its 2014-15 team of AmeriCorps members this week. Another great team is ready to serve our community!

The annual Kids and Horses barbecue is Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Crystal Bay Club. This event features a barbecue plus some great local musicians, and both a silent and live auction. For more information visit http://www.kidsandhorses.org, or pick up tickets at the Potlatch or Bowl Incline. All proceeds benefit the Kids and Horses Therapeutic Riding Center in Minden.

Like to Bowl? Put together a group of co-workers, family members or friends and join the annual Tahoe Family Solutions Bowl-a-thon on Saturday, Oct. 25. This fun event is a fundraiser for TFS and features lots of local celebrities bowling. For information call 775-298-0004.

Buy your tickets now for Tahoe’s Connection for Families annual Tahoe Fall Fest on Thursday, Sept. 18, at Gar Woods Grill and Pier. To purchase tickets or for information visit http://www.tahoefallfest.org.

Another great event for the family is the Washoe County Sheriff’s picnic on Sunday, Sept. 21, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m .at Aspen Grove. It will feature lots of family entertainment as well as food.

Birthdays this week: Bob Segesman on Sept. 11; Brian Collier and Stevie Walton on Sept. 12; and John Foster on Sept. 14. Happy Birthday!

This week the deal and steal is Sunday, Sept. 7, at the North Tahoe Regional Park for the annual Dog Day in the Park fundraiser for Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation (WARF). For information visit http://www.tahoeunleashed.com or call Pam at 530-546-4770.

As always send in your birthdays, anniversaries, and news, along with the best deals or steals you can find, no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday to jeanmeick@aol.com.
