Area woman dies in car wreck

A Sierraville woman died after she rolled down an embankment of a U.S. Forest Service road on Monday.

Joan Crum, 51, was driving her 2003 Honda Element down Forest Service Road 7, toward Highway 89 north, when she lost control in the slick conditions and rolled down the embankment. Crum was ejected from her car, the vehicle came to rest on top of her, and she died from her injuries, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Ray Kulak.

Crum was reportedly not wearing a seat belt.

“We don’t really know how fast she was going,” Kulak said. “We think her speed (for the conditions) was a factor, but we don’t know how fast she was going.”
