Around the world with North Tahoe Arts

Has a mild winter left you with wanderlust? Travel with Tahoe-Truckee locals from Mexico to Myanmar, across great expanses of Mongolia to the rice paddies of Vietnam ” all without leaving home.

North Tahoe Arts Center in Tahoe City debuts a new exhibit Friday that features the travel photography of eight local photographers in a show called Around the World in 80 Works, loosely based on Jules Verne’s classic adventure story.

See the world through the eyes of the photographers as they capture solemn prayer, music festivals and dynamic characters around the globe.

“The images are from all around the world and the artists have such diverse personal visions, but when you see them together in one space, you see how they resonate together in an interesting way,” said local artist and featured photographer Laura Read.

The exhibit kicks off with an opening reception at 5 p.m. today at the art center, located next to the fire station at 380 North Lake Blvd. in Tahoe City, and will run through May 28.

In keeping with the theme of faraway lands, North Tahoe residents Osvaldo and Eddy Ancinas will be serving wines imported from Argentina’s principal wine region, Mendoza.
