Arrests made in Glenshire Drive fire

A suspicious fire near Glenshire Drive in Truckee on Sunday resulted in the arrest of a 22-year-old San Francisco area man.

The blaze was contained to less than one acre, but burned within 50 yards of homes in the Olympic Heights subdivision, according to police reports.

Gene Welch, public safety and information officer for the Truckee Fire Protection District, said the U.S. Forest Service was first on the scene, and crews worked from 12:37 p.m. to 2:10 p.m. to squash the fire.

Officers found a vehicle matching the description of one witnesses reported seeing leave the area after smoke was first observed. Three suspects were contacted and eventually admitted their involvement, said Truckee police Cpl. Roy Richner in a news release.

Shunji Murakami, 22, was arrested on suspicion of unlawfully causing a fire burning forest land, a felony, and booked in the Nevada County jail. Kota Yoshida, 23, and Yuhei Yoshida, 23, were cited and released on suspicion of causing a fire, a misdemeanor, according to police reports.

All suspects are from the San Francisco area and were on a fishing trip when the incident occurred, according to police.
