Clothed in an orange jumpsuit and flanked by Placer County sheriff’s deputies, Lucino Estrada made his first appearance in the Tahoe City court on charges of attempted kidnapping and committing lewd and lascivious acts.

Estrada’s court date was continued to Sept. 25 to give the public defender, Estrada and Deputy District Attorney Chris Cattran time to discuss the charges.

Authorities arrested Estrada on Aug. 9, alleging that he grabbed one young girl by the arm, kissed her on the hand and pulled her toward him. He then tried to lure another young girl into a Kings Beach bathroom, authorities said.

Estrada, 46, is a Mexican citizen and legal resident of the United States, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office. He was living on the couch of a trailer in Kings Beach at the time of the incident, authorities said.

Estrada was arrested only steps from where he allegedly had the encounter with the group of girls, authorities said.

He may face deportation following his court case, depending on the outcome, sheriff’s office officials said.

Estrada had previous arrests on suspicion of being drunk in public and of defrauding an innkeeper, according to Placer County sheriff’s Detective Jeff Davis.

He is being held in jail. District Attorney and Placer County sheriff’s officials were uncertain of Estrada’s bail amount.
