TRUCKEE, Calif. — This Aug. 1 marked the 35th annual Squaw Mountain Run, with around 400 participants.

The Auburn Ski Club Training Center, a nonprofit based on Donner Summit, is the event organizer, and puts on the run as a fundraiser for their junior cross-country ski programs and to help fight cancer in the Tahoe/Truckee community.

The event gives 20 percent of the funds it raises to the Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center. This year, the event donated $2,100 in proceeds, and an additional $2,210 that was raised through donations.

ASC took over organizing the SMR nine years ago and since has donated more than $20,000 to the Cancer Center.
