Authorities identify man who died Thursday at Squaw

SQUAW VALLEY USA ” Authorities identified the man who died Thursday afternoon after colliding with a tree at Squaw Valley USA as Thomas Alfred Johnson of San Bruno, Calif.

The incident occurred on the Granite Chief run after he apparently lost control and slid into a group of trees, according to Dena Erwin of the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

A companion was immediately able to initiate life-saving measures, and very shortly thereafter was relieved by ski patrol and paramedics. Despite these efforts, as well as assistance from a Care Flight nurse, Johnson succumbed to his injuries at 4 p.m.
