Bail hearing set in road-rage death

The Truckee man accused of murder in a road-rage incident in Tahoe City in August will have a bail motion hearing later this month.

The hearing for Timothy Brooks, who is currently being held without bail in the Placer County Jail in Auburn, will be held in Tahoe City on Oct. 18. Brooks, 25, is charged with murder for the alleged stabbing death of 48-year-old part-time Truckee resident Robert Ash following a road-rage incident on Aug. 17.

Following the bail motion hearing, there will be a preliminary hearing to determine whether there is sufficient evidence against Brooks to warrant a trial. The preliminary hearing will also be held in Tahoe City on Oct. 25. If appropriate, trial dates will be set for Brooks to appear in superior court in Auburn.

Brook’s wife, who was at the crime scene but was not arrested, is still under investigation for any involvement she may have had in the homicide, according to Placer County Assistant District Attorney Chris Katran. No charges are pending against her at this time, Katran said.
