Bayless promoted to editor’s position
John Bayless was recently promoted to the position of editor at the Sierra Sun.Bayless joined the Sierra Sun in 1997 as news editor and reporter.The promotion reflects expanded duties and community responsibilities, said Eric Henry, Sierra Sun publisher.In his new role, Bayless will supervise news content of the Sierra Sun and will oversee the news staff.”John is a talented community journalist,” Henry said. “He has the best interests of Truckee at heart and it shows in his work. He’s a capable writer and editor and has done an excellent job at the Sierra Sun.”A Texas native, Bayless received his degree in journalism from Texas A&M University. Before coming to Truckee he was a reporter at the Vidor Vidorian in Vidor, Texas.He had also served as co-editor of the Southwest Daily News in Sulphur, La. and editor of the Moss Bluff News in Moss Bluff, La

May 27 update: Nevada County COVID-19 cases rise by 46
Nevada County recorded 46 new COVID-19 cases on Friday making the new total 16,570. There were 191 active cases, 16,239 people released from isolation, three people hospitalized locally and 140 total deaths.
