Students in Truckee High School’s leadership class and their friends worked feverishly to transform the Sierra Mountain Community Education Center gym into mazes of darkened horror. “Truckee’s Haunted House is a fun tradition,” said Kevin Cowie, member of the leadership class and Associated Student Body. “I’ve been going since I was 6 ” it scared the crap out of me.”

“We also have a not-so-haunted house, with a Hansel and Gretal theme,” said Truckee High sophomore Whitney Reed. “It’s gonna be fun for any child.”

“We’re wingin’ it, but we wanted to bring it back. It has been one of the most successful fundraisers in the past,” said Drew Deurlington, a senior and Assoiated Student Body member. All proceeds from the Haunted House, which includes homemade goodies and pumpkin-patch-type games, go toward the leadership class. Students involved in this class help organize and run events, such as dances, rallies, a Day on the Green, working the gates at football games and keeping posters updated in the Truckee High halls.

Give yourself a good scare for a great cause, Oct. 29 and 30, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Sierra Mountain Community Education Center. Cost

is $5 for the Haunted House and $3 for the not-so-Haunted House.
