Beach town puts brakes on daredevil skateboarders

The Associated Press

MALIBU, Calif. ” Daredevil skateboarders can now be fined $100 if caught speeding down Malibu’s steep roadways.

So-called speedboarders wear helmets, pads and even protective body suits to scoot more than 40 mph down Malibu’s winding canyon roads. It sometimes leads to serious injury.

The City Council has now decided to put the brakes on the extreme rides. The council voted Monday to outlaw the increasingly popular skateboard runs on 10 public streets and impose fines from $25 to $100.
