Big rig crash snarls I-80

Staff ReportsA semitrailer crashed on westbound Interstate 80 near Floriston just after 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, seriously injuring the driver and closing the two westbound lanes for several hours, according to the California Highway Patrol.The westbound lanes reopened around 9:30. Eastbound traffic was also temporarily closed after debris from the semitrailer’s load of pipe spilled across all four lanes of the interstate, slightly injuring another driver.The trailer veered off the road during the crash, and was dangling over a cliff. The driver was extracted from the vehicle and flown to Washoe Medical Center for treatment of major injuries.Gold Ranch Road was also closed during the accident cleanup.
