Black bear and her cub spotted in Tahoe City (VIDEO)

It may be a little more than a month into winter, but that doesn’t mean the Truckee-Tahoe area’s black bear population is totally inactive.
A black bear and her cub were spotted at the North Lake Tahoe Sheriff’s Station in Tahoe City this week, according to a post from the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, which also reminded locals and visitors to be aware of bear activity in the area.
Black bears do not officially hibernate, according to the United States Forest Service, but instead enter a modified form of hibernation called torpor. During this state black bears may wake up and leave their dens in search of food on mild winter days.
