Blamey murder trial continues

Staff Reports

NEVADA CITY – Prosecution of Ronald D. Blamey, the Truckee man accused of killing his wife, a Department of Justice Special Agent, is expected to wrap up shortly, sources near the case said Tuesday.

Blamey is accused of killing Michiel Blamey, his wife of five years, after a domestic dispute over a vacuum cleaner turned fatal.

Prosecuting attorney Ronald A. Wolfson said that Ron Blamey attacked his wife with several weapons, including a steam iron, a 17.4 lb. rock and a paint bucket.

Each time he picked up a new weapon he made a separate, deliberate intention of harming his wife until she was fatally beaten, he said early in the trial.

Thomas Viloria, the defendant’s attorney, said that Blamey, 64, was responding to verbal and physical abuse, and that he killed his wife because he feared she was going into her purse to retrieve her gun and kill him.

The victim, who frequently carried a gun because of her profession, had a stun-gun in her purse. Her firearm was later found in the glove compartment of her car.

Attorneys revealed a report Thursday, May 17 by Department of Justice Special Agent Allen Benitez, that supported some of the defendant’s claims that Michiel Blamey was going through emotional difficulties and dramatic mood swings which often led to explosive behavior in the months before her death.
