Blizzard warning issued for Truckee from Thursday to Friday

Semi-trucks wait in Truckee during blizzard conditions on Jan. 10, 2017 that closed Interstate 80.

A blizzard warning has been issued for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area, which includes Truckee, from 8 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, to 4 a.m. on Friday, March 2, the National Weather Service Office in Reno said.

"Heavy snow with periods of blizzard conditions expected," the warning states. "Strong winds and heavy snowfall rates will cause whiteout conditions with blowing snow. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 feet in the High Sierra above 7,000 feet, with 1 to 3 feet of snow around the 6,000 (foot) elevation, including the Lake Tahoe Basin."
